Scuele Europe

Saturday, 6 December, 10.00 am
Teatro Nuovo “Giovanni da Udine”, Udine

LANGUAGES: Friulian, Italian, English, Catalan, Ladin

SYNOPSIS: Artists and bands from various European minority communities meet high school students from Friuli for a lecture-concert dedicated to creativity, multilingual education and multicultural citizenship. This encounter offers students the chance to discover other European realities that, in many ways, mirror their own. A multi-voiced and multilingual dialogue on linguistic and cultural diversity, viewed as a value, a right and an opportunity.

GUESTS: The event will feature performances by No Good Meets Passion, an artistic collaboration merging the band’s fiery beats with the incisive words of a veteran of Friulian rap; Lia Sampai, one of the most inspiring voices in contemporary Catalan folk music; and Popcorner, who bring fresh energy to the Ladin pop scene. The morning will also include educational contributions from Cor van der Meer of the Mercator European Research Centre — a specialist in minority communities across Europe — alongside Marco Stolfo, researcher at the University of Udine, and other guest speakers.

HOSTED BY: Doro Gjat, Federica Angeli

Pop Corner

Young and ready to impress with pop songwriting that draws on the best singer-songwriter tradition, Popcorner have rare harmony, instrumental and vocal arrangement skills. Their Ladin songs, featuring their complementary female vocals, tell original yet sensitive stories linked to the beauty and complexity of life in the Fassa Valley.

No Good meets Passion

The ultimate collaboration that the Friuli scene had been waiting for, Passion’s poetic and sometimes prophetic lyrics, arranged with No Good’s devastating attitude, feature riffs that will make you jump out of your seats, as well as social criticism and political responsibility. A memoir of the most discouraging current events, but with verses that cry out in revolt and act as a jackhammer wake-up call.

Lia Sampai

Dreamy Mediterranean sounds and hints of popular music from the Catalan Countries accompany Lia as she showcases her recognised talent. With a voice of rare elegance and sweetness, she recounts her experiences in the Ebro Delta. Her acting skills also bring her mature, simple, captivating and evocative writing to life.
